Kingston Council is urging local businesses to undertake a green audit now that a batch of specially trained mentors are primed and ready for action.

Positive Environment Kingston (Pek) helps businesses, charities, churches and schools learn more about the threat of climate change and save money by improving their energy efficiency.

Through the free scheme, every organisation is assigned a specially trained environmental mentor who helps in identifying actions which will lower their ecological footprint.

The mentor is then also on hand to help the organisation implement any changes that arise as part of the audit.

After a successful training session recently with members of Transition Town Kingston, volunteers are ready to carry out their green mission across the borough.

Carlos Queremel, community environment officer at Kingston Council, said: “Pek is a great project that has allowed the council to work with volunteers from Kingston University and more recently from Transition Town Kingston to support organisations and business in the designing and implementing environmental actions.

“Pek one-to-one free support service goes one step further to offering advice by accompanying and giving direct support during the implementation of chosen environmental actions.”

Organisations that have benefited from the support of Pek include Kingston United Reformed Church and New Malden Methodist Church.
