The first signs of support have begun trickling in for a charity appeal which would help keep some of the borough’s most vulnerable people together.

Fircroft Trust has already bought the derelict White Hart pub in Hook but the Kingston Guardian is backing the Building Potential Campaign to raise the £1m they need to build their dream home for those with learning difficulties.

Over the last two weeks they have explained how life will change for the better when they can be brought together in the purpose built home.

People like John, who was forced to move out when he became wheelchair bound, and never returned, would not be separated from his friends in the new building.

Readers are already taking up the challenge - with 100 donated football shirts one of the highlights so far.

The charity is keen that anyone can do as little or as much as they want to in keeping the Fircroft family together.

Now it is time to start to explain how you can help support the bid to build a long-lasting home by paying for it brick by brick.

A brick costs £1, a hod costs £10, a barrow costs £50 and a pallet £50, giving everyone the chance to give what they can afford.

The old phrase ‘time is money’ is also being given a new spin in the Building Potential Campaign.

You can buy the time of an architect, engineer, bricklayer, surveyor, landscaper, glazier, plumber or electrician, on behalf of the Fircroft residents.

Donate £21 to get an hour’s work on behalf of Fircroft, £168 for a day and £840 for a week.
