Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in West Croydon last night.
The victim, who police say was a black man in his 30s, was found fatally stabbed in London Road, West Croydon.
Police were called to the area at 6.15pm where the man was being treated by ambulance officers.
He was taken to a south London hospital but died at 7.08pm.
More than two dozen plainclothes and uniform police were at the scene soon afterwards.
London Road has been completely closed for 500m near the junction with Westminster Road.
A pile of clothes was near the bus stop outside the Lidl supermarket in London Road.
A Met Police spokeswoman said the Homicide and Serious Crime Squad were investigating.
The 22-year-old remains in a south London police station where he is being questioned.
An eyewitness said last night: "I saw the man being resuscitated while he lay lifeless on the stretcher with an intubation tube in his mouth.
"While the paramedics put him in the ambulance they were performing CPR on his chest but he wasn't moving as they loaded the stretcher in to the ambulance.
"I was praying then that he made it."
A nearby resident this morning said there had been a fight at the bus stop between the dead man and another.
He said the victim had been stabbed in the neck.
Kafayat Timson, 41, from Thornton Heath, said: "I was dropping my daughter off at Brownies when I saw the police in force outside Lidl.
“I saw a guy on a stretcher and the police were giving him CPR.
"They were pumping his chest but he just laid there looking lifeless.
“It's getting so dangerous in Croydon now days. I am seriously considering moving out to the country.
"Every week there is something else, someone else getting stabbed or beaten up. I worry for the safety of my kids.
“I check everytime they go out the house that they don't have anything they shouldn't and I know they wouldn't but it's just too risky not to check any more.”
