During the festive season many of us were receiving gifts and preparing for our own holidays. However some of Merton’s youth spent some of their time fundraising for those that perhaps in a few ways are a little more appreciative of receiving what they need, rather than what they want. As part of Ursuline High School’s ethos in Wimbledon, sixth formers are encouraged to organise small events for others who may need help or are less fortunate than themselves.
A Year 12 class from Ursuline High school put much thought and preparation into raising money for St. Raphael’s Hospice based in Sutton. The students held a big cake sale within the school, with everyone in the class contributing and helping out. As well as that, they organised a non uniform day for the sixth form, with those taking part making a donation to the Hospice. Much awareness about the hospice was made, posters and reminders made the two events much more possible and successful. The students claimed it was a good experience to work hard and raise money whilst focusing on their studies at the same time, especially during the Christmas season. The final amount raised was a promising £ 170.00 which will go towards helping the residents based in St. Raphael’s Hospice.
