Two friends from Wallington are trekking through the Costa Rican rainforest to support the Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign.
Mandy Quartermaine, 46, and Lorraine Woods, 47, hope to raise £10,000 by reaching the active, lagoon-filled Turrialba volcano.
Mandy said: “If someone had told us we would be living in a tent in Costa Rica for six nights unaided, facing the wildlife there, we would have said ‘no, not us’.”
“Now we are both signed up and ready to go - well almost. It’s not about us having a mid-life crisis but a personal challenge and the ability to raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign.”
