A Polish alcoholic drunk himself to death, an inquest heard on Thursday.
Maciej Zonj, 41, of Victoria Road in Mitcham, was found slumped in his bedroom after a heavy drinking session on Sunday, November 23 last year.
The married father-of-two, who worked as a builder to send money home to his family, had been drinking vodka and lager with friends the night before.
But Mr Zonj, who had been an alcoholic for 20 years, carried on drinking and was seen taking a 700ml bottle of vodka to his room in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He was heard snoring loudly a few hours later, but when a resident of the rented house he shared checked on him at 10pm, he had stopped breathing.
A post mortem report found he had traces of vomit in his lungs and a blood alcohol level of 480mg- almost six times the legal drink drive limit.
Dr Paul Knapman, coroner at Westminster’s Coroner’s Court, ruled he died from alcohol poisoning and recorded a verdict of misadventure.
