A charity gig organised by four students at Rydens School, Walton, has raised over £800 for the Shooting Star Children’s Hospice.

About 250 people filled the school hall to listen to an opera singer and jazz before Absence of Sound, the pupils’ rock band, took the stage to play cover songs and their own compositions.

Drummer Joseph Sayers said the show last Wednesday evening had been “really good fun”.

Student band members Tyler Carpenter, Jack Divey, Ammar Abdulati and Adam Farquharfon had earlier been interviewed on Brookland FM, which played their song Broken Verticle Lines on air.

The pupils chose the charity, based in Hampton Hill, Middlesex, after research on the internet. Local Shooting Star volunteer Pauline Sieler came to the concert, thanking the students for their support and telling the audience about the hospice.

Anyone interested in helping the hospice should call Vernon Watts on 020 8481 8190.
