A Streatham man is hoping to boost the profile of local businesses with his appearance on hit Channel 4 television show Come Dine With Me.
Teacher Peter Rixham, 37, from Hambro Road, will be hoping his culinary prowess leads him to victory in the shows to be aired in the week starting February 2 – in which five contestants each host a dinner party and vote at the end of the week on whose is the best.
But the singleton said it is more important for him that the local shops he loves were filmed when he visited for ingredients and other items for his dinner party.
He added: “I love the sense of community in Streatham and all these wonderful shops. If people who watch the show come and visit them for themselves I’ll be delighted.
“Everyone is worried about the economy so I thought this would be a good way to boost local business through a show which is watched by millions of people.”
He suggested a number of locations for filming to the shows producers, including local delis, Doris Florist, and The Earl Ferrers pub.
But the deputy head from The Manor school in Clapham says he is not hoping to launch a career as a TV chef.
“The show was exhausting,” he said. “Once was quite enough.”
The show featuring Peter’s dinner party in Streatham is scheduled to be broadcast on February 4.
