The first in a string of events celebrating the 700th anniversary of the oldest complete building in Kingston, the Lovekyn Chapel, will take place today.
Professor Nigel Saul’s historical talk, A Wing and a Prayer, will consider the fortunes of the Lovekyn family and the establishment and siting of their chapel, before pondering schooling before the establishment of Kingston Grammar School on the site in 1561.
The talk by Prof Saul, head of medieval history at Royal Holloway, University of London, will be the first in a trio of talks on medieval life, and there will also be music nights and a wine tasting event.
An exhibition of views of the chapel and entries to a commemorative photography competition will be held in the Baxter Gallery later in the year.
Anyone interested in the events can contact the school on 020 8939 8825, or visit kgs.org.uk/events
