Sheer class from Worcester Park

Park started brightly forcing the visitors back and a series of free kicks and corners were awarded. The deliveries from these awards were good but Park could not score and as a consequence Sheerwater were allowed back into the game and caused Park keeper Peter King to make two good saves to keep the visitors from opening the scoring. In the space of two minutes on the half hour Sheerwater had the ball in the net but both attempts were ruled out for offside.

Sheerwater finally went ahead when they were awarded a penalty and their no.8 gave King no chance from the spot on 40 minutes, 0-1.

Parks reply was instant as from the restart the ball went to Mitch Barwell who’s long pass found Gary Knowlden on the left and he cleverly beat two defenders and fired home from an acute angle into the far corner to equalise on 41 minutes,1-1.

Park were not done yet and as the half drew to a close Gary Knowlden found Chad Heuston who skilfully flicked the ball up and volleyed it passed the startled visitors keeper from fully 25 yards to give Park the lead at the break. 2-1. At the start of the 2nd period Park attacked from the onset and Gary Knowlden found Mark Callicott on the edge of the visitors box and he let fly a hard shot which deflected past the stranded keeper to give Park a 3-1 lead on 47 minutes.

Park now took complete charge giving the visitors an unhappy afternoon as they attacked relentlessly and Sheerwater defended well to keep down the score as well as occasionally breaking out to give Parks keeper the chance to show why he is still the No.1 custodian as he pulled off three very good saves to keep the visitors from adding to their score.

Finally Parks fine football paid dividends when an accurate kick from King found man of the match Gary Knowlden and he beat two defenders to feed the hard working James Dunning who readily accepted the chance to wrap up the points for a deserved Park 4-1.
