Plans to close Shepperton station ticket office on Sundays have been scrapped - it was revealed this week.

Last week Lord Andrew Adonis, transport minister, told South West Trains (SWT) it could not proceed in full with a plan to reduce ticket office opening hours at 114 stations across the network.

The rail operator has responded to Lord Adonis’ announcement - and the rejection of proposals to reduce hours at offices during times when on average 12 or more tickets are issued hourly - with a new list of opening times and has announced Shepperton station’s office will stay open seven days a week.

The office is currently open for nearly eight hours on a Sunday and SWT has been told it has to open it between 9am and 1pm but it has been allowed to reduce the weekday opening hours from more than 13 a day to less than seven.

The rail operator’s plans to drastically slash Saturday opening hours at Sunbury station’s ticket office - from nearly seven to just over four - have also been thrown out by Lord Adonis.

SWT said it has yet to decide exactly when the changes will come into force.
