Is your dog ship shape and Bristol fashion? If so they could become a sea-dog on the Mary Rose.

A special exhibition on the hidden treasures of the famous ship is being held at the Whitgift School, Haling Park.

And organisers want a team of small, well trained dogs to guide school children around the various attractions.

It is in honour of a dog which was trapped in the doorway of the ship when it sunk and whose skeleton is one of the artefacts on display.

A spokesman said: “A number of displays have been created to be of particular interest to children. Each of these will be indicated by a symbol of Hatch, the ship’s dog.

"Young visitors will discover the history of Henry VIII's famous warship and uncover the truth about what happened to Hatch. It will be an exciting adventure.”

Other Tudor artefacts on display include clothing, jewellery, personal possessions, money, domestic utensils, furniture, musical instruments, medical equipment, navigational apparatus, weapons of warfare, tools, rigging and wood from the ship.

The Mary Rose sank in 1545 in the Battle of the Solent. She was raised in 1982 and her collection is a unique time capsule and one of the world’s most precious heritage icons.
