A single mum from Croydon is on the verge of becoming a singing sensation – and she doesn’t even know it.

Alex Sewyer has a recording contract waiting to be signed but frantic music producers who are desperate to make her song a top five hit have no idea where she is.

The 24-year-old mum-of-one, thought to be living on a council estate in Croydon, recorded the demo tape more than two years ago but it has lay undiscovered in a recording studio until now.

Two production companies hope to release one of the tracks from the tape called Children, which Alex wrote and performed, but their hands are tied unless she signs a contract permitting them to do so.

Michael Scott is one of the directors of London Live and Direct, which specialises in urban dance music, and is trying to release the record.

He said: “This could be a real rags-to-riches story if we could only find her. She recorded the tape between 2000 and 2001 with IQ Productions but it wasn’t until recently that we found this track she did called Children.

“We know it could be a top five hit in the charts. Some of the bigger record companies, such as BMG, have expressed an interest in it but we can’t do anything with it until we find her and sign her.

“We’re ready to sign her immediately. We want to release the single and offer her an album deal. This could be her big break. This song will be massive and we just want her to get in touch as soon as possible.” Do you know where Alex Sewyer is? Call the newsroom on 020 8645 8819 or email kmcqueeney@london.newsquest.co.uk
