Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni believes that so long as the Eagles keep playing football the way they like to there is no reason why they cannot continue to climb the table.

The 2-1 win over Norwich City last night lifted Palace into the top half of the table for the first time since the opening day of the season and moved them to within three points of the play-offs.

It was also only the second time this season Palace have recorded back-to-back wins but Speroni was confident they could keep their current form.

He said: “When we play our football we are a very strong team so we have to keep going with it.

“We try to win every game, especially at home but every game is going to be tough in this league.

“Anybody can beat anybody so we have to keep the same mentality that we are playing with at the moment and that will give us good results.”

The Argentine was recalled to the Eagles line-up against Bristol City on Saturday after missing the defeat at Cardiff through a combination of the birth of his first child and a groin injury.

He took all his goal kicks last night after preferring not to risk aggravating the groin problem against Bristol, but he is confident the injury is behind him.

He said: “It was better last night.

“I was kicking at maybe 80 per cent just in case to make sure I am fine for the next game but I went through today without any pain or anything.

“I have a few days now to rest and get ready for Saturday and I’ve been very careful this week but I am fine now.”

The former Dundee United man also revealed he is relishing fatherhood after his son Thiago was born on 12 days ago.

He said: “It’s excellent, I am so happy.

“Everybody was telling me it’s the best thing in the world and I never thought it was going to be like this but I’m the happiest man in the world. I’m having a great time, he sleeps and has been a very good boy.”
