Hounslow's Treaty Centre will celebrate its 21st birthday with a host of activities tomorrow.

Proceedings will begin at 10am when Hounslow’s mayor Councillor Genevieve Hibbs will help cut a large birthday cake, measuring 4.5ft wide and 3ft feet deep at the shopping centre.

Entertainer Kevin Burke, aka Bare Faced Cheek, will be providing face painting free of charge and a £100 Debenhams voucher will be up for grabs.

There will also be a public exhibition outlining a vision of the future of Hounslow town centre and shoppers will be able look at archive pictures of the centre, which will be on display.

The Treaty Centre took two years to build and opened its doors to the public on September 29, 1987.

Original tenants, which have been based in the centre since day one, include Adams, Barratts, Thomas Cook, H Samuel, Superdrug, Beauty Base, Burtons, Dorothy Perkins and Woolworths.

The centre’s appearance has changed considerably over the last three or four years after work was carried out to modernise it.

Treaty Centre manager Robin Arbenz said: “The Treaty Centre has become very well established as a local shopping centre.

“At a time of the credit crunch, the footfall (the number of visitors) continues to rise.

“I am optimistic that a lot of local people will come along tomorrow and take the opportunity to have their say on the future.”
