A Streatham woman returned home to find blood smeared on the floor outside her flat and police tape blocking her doorway, but cops cannot tell her why it was there.

Distressed Suzie Freeman, 27, had to cut through the tape to get to her front door of her Streatham High Road after she rang Streatham police station but they could not tell her what happened.

Police say they have no record of the incident.

It occurred over six weeks ago but she says the episode still makes her feel unsafe when she comes home at night.

She said the chilling incident was the last straw in two years of “hell” living in her council block which has seen the communal corridor outside her home used daily as a toilet by homeless people and drug addicts.

Now she is calling on Lambeth council to install a security door to stop people freely entering the corridor and to avoid a further potentially serious incident.

“It was horrible to come home and see the blood and tape- I thought someone had been killed” she said. “Something like that really unnerves you and I feel I deserve an explanation. People should know when something has happened on their doorstep.”

The Surrey County Council worker said: “It stinks of dried urine and I’m sick of it. The human faeces is disgusting. Now I just want it to stop. I want the council to keep these people out.”

Her landlord Gary Mills said despite various calls to council housing managers Lambeth Living, he has had no breakthrough in them agreeing to a meeting.

“People shouldn’t be made to live like this - its not fair,” he added.

A Lambeth Living spokeswoman said the council had no record of Mr Mill’s request. However he said it was happy to meet with Mrs Freeman and Mr Mills to see if there was anything it could do about their concerns.

She said: “Security measures such as a new communal entry door would have to be part funded by all leaseholders sharing a property, and in a situation such as this we would have to get the explicit permission and financial contibution from the leaseholder rather than the tenant."
