Residents of properties owned by Hounslow Homes have been encouraged to put forward ideas on ways to improve conditions in their communities as part of a £1.5m project.

Housing estates could see new playgrounds, renewable energy sources, cultural education programmes and gardening schemes sprouting up as a result of the initiative.

Councillor Phil Andrews, lead member for housing and community safety, has introduced the project to improve estates and blocks in the borough.

Residents will be given the chance to bid for a slice of £1.5m funded by the council’s housing revenue account reserves.

Coun Andrews said: “Tenants will have the opportunity to submit ideas to improve life on their estates.

“The project is for Hounslow Homes’ residents so it is only fitting that they decide how we spend the money.”

A range of projects, priced from £15,000 to £100,000, will be considered. Hounslow Homes held roadshows on September 9 and 10 to provide more information to residents and to help get the creative juices flowing.

The application process will be launched on October 1 at the Civic Centre from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.

Coun Andrews said: “It will be a fun-filled family event with a range of entertainment, so I encourage all residents to come along and gain a better understanding of the application and bidding process. Trained staff will answer any questions.”
