An inquest has opened into the death of 19-year-old football player, Oliver Kingonzila, who was stabbed to death outside a Croydon nightclub at the weekend.

The Congolese born, Croydon College student, was stabbed outside the E Bar in South End, Croydon on Saturday.

An inquest at Croydon Magistrates Court heard how Oliver had attended a private, ticket-only party at the bar with a group of friends. During the course of the evening Oliver entered into an altercation with another man.

Detective Inspector Tony Bishop of the Homicide and Serious Crimes Command at Barnet told the inquest said: “Over the course of the evening two men became involved in an altercation on the stairs inside the E Bar which involved shoulder barging.

“This spilled out onto the pavement outside. Punches were thrown and the two fell to the floor.

“During the fight Oliver received multiple puncture wounds to the left side of his torso and a fatal wound to the neck which cut his jugular.

“It would appear that there was a history between the two men.”

Oliver was then rushed to Mayday hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was formally identified by his uncle who had last seen him on Friday September 12.

D Insp Bishop said: “We are still looking for witnesses and we are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward in the strictest confidence. Any one with any information should call the incident room on 0208 2477821.”

An 18-year-old man was remanded in custody on September 16 to appear at the Old Bailey on December 23.
