The final book delving into the wizardly world of Hogwarts has cast a spell on Kingston readers, if borrowing figures are to be believed.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows dominated the charts of most borrowed book over the last year flying off the shelves at five out of the borough's seven libraries.

Fantasy fans desperate for their latest fix of their favourite teenage wizard who may have baulked at the price for buying the hardback, borrowing the book a total of 454 times driving it to the top at New Malden, Kingston, Old Malden, Tolworth Community and Tolworth Drive libraries.

Bibliophiles at the other two libraries made more offbeat choices, breaking the number one rule of literary economics - JK Rowling rules.

A book about love, life and sexual awakening in the swinging sixties - On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan - caught the imagination of the people of Surbiton.

Small World by Matt Beaumont exploring "universal themes of love, death, friendship, marriage, madness, and redemption" in north London was the most borrowed book at the Hook Centre.

Local author Jacqueline Wilson also got a look in with three of her children's books - Jacky Daydream, Starring Tracy Beaker and Candy Floss.
