Police have found the mum of a baby girl abandoned at West Middlesex Hospital on Tuesday.

Officers had earlier issued a CCTV photo of a woman they want to speak to in connection with the day old baby girl abandoned at hospital.

The newborn girl was found in a trolley at the hospital just after 8pm on Tuesday.

Nicknamed Jane by hospital staff, she is in good health but police said earlier they feared for the health and safety of the mum.

Detective Chief Inspector Glenn Gavin from the Met's child abuse investigation team said: "We are told by the hospital the little girl is doing well but because staff at the hospital have no knowledge of her background she is at present having to undergo various tests.

"The nurses have named her Jane after the member of staff who found her."

Police emphasised it was not a criminal enquiry and they wanted to make sure the mum was safe.

A Met Police spokesman said the mum had come forward to police last night.

He said both the mum and daughter were doing well.
