A bike-riding thug tried to rob two teenagers by threatening them with what is believed to have been knife, police say.

The two victims, both 18 years old, were walking towards Epsom on Longmead Road when a man on a blue mountain bike approached them opposite Blenheim School about 8.20pm on August 30.

After showing what is believed to have been a knife the man demanded the victims hand over their mobile phones and wallets.

When the teens said they had neither, the man demanded one of them gave him a can of beer he was holding.

The yob said he was going to search the victims, but stopped to answer his mobile, giving them the chance to walk away. He shouted at them, but then rode off towards Ewell East station.

No-one was injured.

The thug is described as a white man, aged about 20, around 6ft tall, of large build and with black curly hair.

He was wearing all black clothing and riding a blue mountain bike.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Trudie Harrison said: “Epsom and Ewell has a very low level of knife crime and I would like to reassure the community that we are working very hard to find the person responsible.

“Local officers will continue, where appropriate, to use their search powers to ensure knife-related crime never becomes an issue in the area and, fortunately, no-one was injured during this incident.

“However, it would have been an unpleasant experience for the victims and I am appealing to anyone who would have been in the Longmead Road area on the Saturday evening to think back.”

Anyone with information on the incident should contact D Con Harrison at Epsom CID on 0845 125 2222.
