Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni insists his continued absence from the Argentine national side does not pray on his mind.

The Eagles number one has been in inspired form for some months now but has been continually overlooked by Argentine national coach Alfio Basile.

The 29-year-old admits he still harbours ambitions to play for the side but for the moment he is more than happy to concentrate on life at Palace.

He said: “I think everyone has a chance and I hope they can watch all the players.

“I know it’s a hard job but I know they have people around the world watching the players so you never know.

“I’ve no idea how many people are ahead of me.

“I know when we were in the Premiership they were watching me but then I didn’t hear anything else, but I don’t think of that really, I just think Palace first.

“If I keep going anything can happen but if they want me to go and play for my country then of course I will.”

Despite the distance he would have to travel for games Speroni does not think boss Neil Warnock would stand in his way.

He said: “It’s a long way, it’s 15 hours flight so I don’t think he would be happy, but I don’t think he would stop me.

“He understands players careers and I think he would be happy for me.”

Speroni’s impressive performances, including three clean sheets already this season, could see him attract interest from the Premiership in the January transfer window but he insists he is happy at Palace.

He said: “I just signed three more years here at Palace so I’m very happy here and I don’t have a rush to move.

“I just want to keep playing and playing well and see what happens.

“Of course all the players want to play at the highest level in the highest tournaments but I’m happy here.”
