Julian Speroni: Should have claimed at least one of the corners that led to Doyle’s goals but hard to criticise him when he made three world-class saves. 6
Danny Butterfield: Two good blocks in the second half but didn’t get forward as much as usual. 6
Paddy McCarthy: Went off injured at half time and Palace looked worse defensively without him. 6
Matt Lawrence: Hoofed the ball all too often when he had space to control it and was run ragged by Doyle. 5
Clint Hill: Moved to centre back after the break but was left exposed a lot. 6
Shaun Derry: Had a poor game as Reading came through the centre of the park a lot. 5
Tom Soares: Took his goal well and was full of energy. 6
Nick Carle: Best game for Palace so far as he managed to find space in the middle of the park and used the ball well. 7
Lee Hills: Out of place on the left wing and beaten for first goal, was better at left back. 6
John Oster: A few good set pieces but did not get to the by-line once. 6
Calvin Andrew: Palace’s best player in the first half as he led the line superbly, unlucky to be moved out wide after the interval where he faded. Man of the match. 7.
SUBS:
Alan Lee (Paddy McCarthy, 45): Assist for Soares’s goal but needs time to gel with new teammates. 6
Sean Scannell (John Oster, 72): Failed to make an impact alongside Lee. 5
Carl Fletcher(Shaun Derry, 75): Did not get into the match. 5
