A string of Wandsworth schools have been commended for their commitment to green transport.

Nineteen schools received awards in Transport for London’s school travel plan accreditation scheme, which aims to ensure a long-term commitment to sustainable travel planning in schools.

Most of the borough’s schools already have a travel plan, which sets out how the school will improve the safety and quality of school journeys and cut the use of cars on the school run.

It ensures schools make good the pledges outlined in their plan and also enables continued funding and support for sustainable travel projects for schools throughout the capital.

In Wandsworth, St Michael’s C of E Primary School achieved silver level status and was presented with its award at a special London-wide ceremony at the Natural History Museum.

Another 18 schools in Wandsworth have achieved bronze level status.

They are: Albermarle Primary School,All Saints’ C of E Primary School, Ashcroft Technology College, Bellville Primary School, Broomwood Hall Upper School, Burntwood School, Christ Church C of E Primary School, Emanuel School, Heathmere Primary School, Hotham Primary School, John Burns Primary School, Lion House School, Merlin School, Our Lady Queen of Heaven RC School, Putney Park School, Riversdale Primary School, Roehampton C of E School and St Boniface RC Primary School.
