Borough schoolchildren recently took their places on the starting grid as they raced to learn about sustainability.
Six schools put forward teams, who designed, built and raced model solar cars in the first ever borough primary school solar car challenge on Friday, July 11.
Hampton Hill Junior School cruised to victory in the fastest car category, while Stanley Junior School in Teddington took home the most creative car title.
Richmond Council’s cabinet member for environment, Councillor Martin Elengorn, said: “I hope they found this an exciting and fun way to learn about being environmentallyfriendly.
“Sustainability is at the heart of everything the council does and we are doing all we can to raise awareness of it in borough schools.”
Participating schools included East Sheen Primary, Hampton Hill Juniors, Stanley Juniors, St Mary’s CE Primary, St Richard’s with St Andrew’s CE Primary and the Queens CE Primary.
