Eco fever continues to grip “London’s greenest” borough as residents of all ages took part in a celebration of sustainability.

Richmond Council got in the spirit of the Love London Festival from June 1 to 21 by holding a series of events to promote green thinking. The National Physics Laboratory co-hosted one of the leading events, which saw students, residents and businesses become scientists for the day to take part in the Teddington Energy Summit.

MP for Twickenham Vincent Cable and Richmond’s cabinet member for the environment, Martin Elengorn, swapped their shirts and ties for white lab jackets as they went on guided tours looking at solar panels, fuel cells and a range of other topics.

Visitors also sat in on seminars discussing energy efficiency and renewable technologies, including talks on the fuel crisis and ways to reduce your carbon footprint.

Other activities ranged from “green drinks”, a social event for ecoconscious people living or working in the borough, a “green business” launch to champion a new free environmental support programme for all businesses in Richmond and Richmond Filmhouse screening a double bill of eco films.

Councillor Elengorn said: “As London’s greenest borough we are always looking for new ways to be environmentally-friendly in partnership with local organisations and the wider community.

“We were delighted with the response and it was very encouraging to hear that people left the events inspired to become more environmentally- friendly.”
