An illegal immigrant who attempted to rape a woman in a Twickenham internet cafe has been told he will be deported after serving a lengthy sentence.

The jury of nine men and three women took five hours and 35 minutes to find Anosh Ahmed, 31, from Harrow, guilty of the attack by a majority of 11 to one today.

Ahmed had his head bowed as Judge Matthews told him jail was inevitable.

She said: “The circumstances about how this offence took place raises safety concerns about women in public.”

Summing up earlier this week, Judge Matthews’ told the court how Ahmed only answered “no comment” during his two police interviews.

The 21-year-old victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, broke down as she told the jury on Monday of her ordeal.

She told Kingston Crown Court, in a taped interview recorded the day after the incident, that Ahmed, from India and who has an economics degree, said he would kill her if she did not have sex with him in the Cafe Coffee Day in York Street.

The woman had wanted to use the internet about 5pm on February 24, and walked past the shut shop.

Ahmed was outside and told her she could use the facilities while he cleared up. He then kissed her on the cheek, began to touch her neck and stopped her leaving.

“I started yelling and struggling,” she said. “He told me he was going to kill me unless I was quiet.”

She said Ahmed pulled her into a disabled toilet at the back of the cafe and got her to the floor.

She said: “His hands were all over me. He got me to the ground and got on top of me. Part of me was worried that he was going to do violent, crazy things to me.

“He said ‘it’s OK, it’s just sex; you don’t want to die, do you?’ He was telling me it was OK because he was wearing a condom.”

She told the court Ahmed put his hands down her trousers and told her to take her clothes off.

Swabs of the victim and Ahmed found they had each other’s DNA on them.

He will sentenced on August 28.
