A former dentist who let her lover, an unqualified asylum-seeker, perform surgery on her patients has failed in a bid to return to dentistry.

Mogjan Azari, 42, was jailed for a year after her boyfriend Omid Amidi-Mazaheri, 45, left patients in agony and overcharged for his disastrous work.

A General Dental Council (GDC) panel heard Amidi-Mazaheri was unqualified as a dentist when he practised at Azari's surgeries in Tulse Hill and Norbury, south London.

Azari had claimed £88,000 for the work she carried out - £30,000 more than what she should have charged.

The chairman of the GDC's panel John Scott said restoring her to the register would undermine public confidence in the profession.

Azari was sent to prison in 2005 in connection with the numerous incidents involving letting Amidi-Mazaheri treat patients, was struck off the dentist register a year later.

Suspicions arose about Amidi-Mazaheri's activities at her Norbury surgery in January 2003 but she moved her lover to her clinic in Tulse Hill.

Amidi-Mazaheri had left patients in extreme pain, drilling holes in their teeth without anaesthetic and inserting fillings that fell out within days.

The hearing on July 25 rejected Azari’s application to be re-instated into the profession.
