Veteran Simon Osborn could become the latest player to join the Croydon Athletic revolution.

The Croydon-born 36 year-old former Crystal Palace midfielder is one of two trialists due to feature against Blue Square Premier side Crawley Town in a pre-season friendly tonight. He could become manager Dave Garland’s fifth summer signing and might also be joined by former AFC Wimbledon man Mark de Bolla and Carshalton striker Luke Fontana, who both played in the club’s last two friendlies.

Garland said: “We are looking at another two players tonight, including Simon.

“It looks like we are going to sign de Bolla and he along with Simon will bring us the experience we need with the young boys. Simon has played at every level and knows what’s required.”

The Rams had to come from behind against Ryman Premier side Tooting and Mitcham on Saturday, equalising in the last minute through a Micky Collins header to draw 1-1.

However, the match was overshadowed by a serious injury to Rams right-back Jeremy Williams that looks set to keep him out of action for a long time.

Garland said: “He has got his leg in plaster all the way up to his thigh. They think he has hurt his cruciate ligament and possibly the bone in his knee but we will not know the full extent until he has an x-ray on Friday when the swelling has gone down.

“It’s a big blow for us as he had started pre-season really well.”

Despite the injury, Garland was pleased with how his side’s preparations for the new season were going.

“We looked a bit jaded against Tooting and Mitcham but we drew 1-1,” he said.

“But pre-season has gone very good and all the teams we have played have been in leagues above us. It’s all about getting your match fitness and looking at different players.“
