A man who caused chaos when he smashed his car into the front garden of an Ashford home is still being sought by cops.

A police helicopter and dog unit were deployed to search for the driver following the crash in Clockhouse Lane on Thursday. The road was closed for several hours while the damage was assessed.

The incident, which happened just before 9am, saw a grey Toyota Hilux came off the road and crash through a garden wall and into a telegraph pole. The driver ran from the scene in the direction of Reedsfield Road.

He is described as white, possibly in his 20s, with dark curly hair, and was wearing a light blue t-shirt and dark baggy shorts. Police believe he is likely to have been injured in the collision. No other people were hurt.

The wall which protected the front garden and driveway collapsed on to a red Toyota Corolla belonging to the house owners. The car also hit the base of a telegraph pole which had to be replaced after the foundations were found to be beyond repair.

The homeowners declined to comment when we called at their house.

Anyone with information about this incident or who may have seen the man leaving the scene should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
