Police are warning antisocial motorcyclists who race around Weybridge they risk having their vehicles seized and crushed.

One vehicle has already been seized by officers after being driven in an antisocial way.

PC Richard Bowen, neighbourhood specialist officer for Weybridge, said: “This is the issue local residents want us to concentrate on for the next few months and we will be increasing patrols and using seizure powers to put a stop to this behaviour.

“We want to send a clear message that the dangerous driving of mopeds, mini-motorbikes and other vehicles in Weybridge will not be tolerated.”

Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1998 gives police the power to immediately seize vehicles which are being driven by uninsured drivers or drivers who do not have a valid licence.

Under Section 59 of the Act, police can also issue warnings to others driving antisocially and if these drivers receive a second warning within 12 months, their vehicle is seized.

Owners of confiscated vehicles have to pay a fine within a set time limit or their vehicle can be sold or destroyed.

The safer neighbourhood team will also confiscate alcohol being consumed in a public place if they believe it is likely to lead to antisocial behaviour.
