Well, what have we here? A brand new blog!

It’s going to be a team effort written by a sterling bunch of individuals that, over a period of four months, with my dulcet (aka whip-like) tones behind them, is going to be transformed into Team Trinity.

Over the next 10 weeks or so they are going to puff, pant, ache, lance blisters and scream with fatigue. They will get hot and steamy (if the sun comes out!), get wet when it rains, perhaps be blown away if March comes in like a Lion. And as the training steps up they might, at times, even wish they had never been born. But – most of all – on 13th April, 2008 they are going to pull together and Team Trinity will run its collective socks off in the London Marathon, and raise loads of money in the process for those who cannot run and may never see another summer…. the patients cared for by Trinity Hospice.

Quick plug: every year Trinity cares for over 2,000 patients – our catchment area covers the whole of Central and South West London - with advanced non-curable diseases such as cancer, motor neurone disease, severe heart failure or chest disease. We optimise the quality of life for all our patients – whether they are in-patients or being treated at home – by providing physical, psychological, spiritual and social care to them and their carers. To do this we need to raise over £4.5 million every year through voluntary contributions and fundraising in the community… so every step that Team Trinity takes will help.

I’m Laura – Team Mascot – and I’m a fundraising manager at Trinity. My job will be to keep Team Trinity’s spirits up, dole out the liniment and running vests and try not to trip them up! I’ll be metaphorically wiping their sweaty brows, listening to their sobs and their laughter, and encouraging them right up to the gritty finishing line.

All you armchair athletes can help me too by leaving your comments, sponsoring the runners, and generally keeping their spirits up.

Members of Team Trinity are going to take turns to post on this blog. They’ll introduce themselves and tell you, warts and all, how their training is going. Our physiotherapist is going to contribute as well, with tons of good advice. Who knows, if you are running the Marathon but have not yet selected your charity, it might even make you want to join Team Trinity yourself!

So, hats off….and running shoes on…. to Team Trinity…
