Needless to say, I have spent a fair amount of my weekend sat in front of the TV and needless to say, I am very, very happy with my new gadget.

I’ve only got the 2 games at the moment. One game is called “Motor Storm” and is a racing game set in canyons and dirt tracks. The graphics are amazing and it is quite addictive.

The other game is an action adventure called “Uncharted: Drakes Fortune”. I’ve not actually got round to playing this yet, as I am saving it for one of those days when I’ve got nothing on my plate (Saturday I had to run a few errands for Holly and Sunday, was Mothers Day).

I did manage to download a demo of a game called “Kane and Lynch”, plotwise, I am not quite sure what this one is about. But from what I can tell, it’s a game where you are running around shooting people. Again, the graphics are amazing and while the controls are a little hard to get your head around, the game becomes quite enjoyable. Judging by this little taster (you only get one level on a demo) I will definitely be purchasing this.

Speaking of downloading, back in December when I got my PSP I purchased 2 PS1 games (Destruction Derby and Crash Bandicoot) and I was delighted to discover that I can download those games onto my PS3. After that, I got a bit carried away and also downloaded “Government Police” and “Mortal Kombat” – which, after 12 years – I am still rubbish at.

Oddly enough, I also discovered the Playstation 3 can play Playstation 1 games – which is fantastic as I still have some classic games knocking about (mainly, the “Resident Evil” series, “Silent Hill” and the first “Metal Gear Solid” game). It’s a shame that it wont play the playstation 2 titles too, but hopefully, Sony might pull their finger out one day and include the emulation software in a network update – it's not likely, but we can live in hope!

I’ve not managed to get my hands on a blu-ray dvd yet, but I have managed to download some high definition trailers (at 1080p) from the playstation network and these give a good indication of what the quality of a blu-ray disc is like. The picture is very crisp and the contrast of lights and darks is very prominent. I am thinking my first blu-ray is going to be either Beowulf, Sunshine or Across The Universe.

Lastly, I have also managed to get my Playstation 3 to communicate with my PC. I’ve set up a shared media folder on my PC and my Playstation 3 can access most of the content. However, there are a few file types it refuses to recognise (quicktime movies, files from itunes and PSP mp4s). This is quite handy if you wish to watch family videos, look at photographs or even trailers that are downloaded of the internet.

All in all, the playstation 3 is more than just a games machine. It is a multi-media unit that takes home entertainment into the HD generation.

You can also use the old Sing Star mics with the new Sing Star games, so it keeps Holly happy.
