It’s that time of year again, where I get to list all the films I’ve seen this year and then sit down and work out which ones were best.

I can never pick a favourite, there’s far too many.

Now some of these films may have been released last year, but give me a break. What with the whole moving out thing and starting a new job, I haven’t had nearly as much time I would like to dedicate to my DVD/movie watching habit.

Number 5 – Across The Universe
Well, I am big Beatles fan and I had big fears about this flick. However, I thought this film was great. If anything, this made me appreciate their songs all the more

Number 4 – Planet Terror
Oh my god, where to begin with this film? Well, its about a virus that turns people into ill tempered boil faced zombies, it features a lot of gore and a one legged stripper who has a gun on the end of her stump

Quote: “I've seen me a lot of weird shit in my day, but I ain't never seen a one-legged stripper. I seen me a stripper with one breast. And I seen me a stripper with twelve toes. I've even seen me a stripper with no brains at all, but I ain't never seen a one-legged stripper. And I've been to Morocco”

Number 3 – Zodiac
David Fincher makes a film without any gimmicky camera tricks (not that any of that made his previous films any worse – Fight Club is almost perfect in my opinion). The main focus on this film is the performances, featuring a great turn from Robert Downey Jnr. This film showcases how the unsolved Zodiac murders in the late 60s and early 70s affected those investigating the case.

Number 2 – Transformers
My expectations were low with this (guess I was fearing another Phantom Menace), and a lot of people have expressed disappointment over it. However, I need to point out the following: Its about giant transforming robots and it was directed by Michael Bay (a director who has proved that no plot hole is too big that it can’t be solved with a big explosion). What more were they expecting? Orson Welles?

Number 1 – The Bourne Ultimatum
Its not often the 3rd film in a trilogy is as good as its predecessors. In a year full of disappointing threequals (Shrek the 3rd, Spider-man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End), it good to know that there has been at least one decent entry to the 3rd act competition. The Bourne Ultimatum however was not just another film in the series. If anything, it is an extension of The Bourne Supremacy - taking elements from the previous episode and elaborating on them further, making the viewing all the more enjoyable.
