An astronomer has revealed the best places to watch the biggest meteor shower of the year in Surrey and London.
Gideon Bendavid-Walker, of the Royal Observatory Greenwich, has suggested where to view the Perseid meteor shower this month.
If lucky enough, you could spot one of the most phenomenal celestial displays in its peak overnight on August 12 and 13, with stargazers in dark locations potentially able to spot up to 150 meteors an hour.
The event will produce up to 100 shooting stars per hour under ideal conditions. This year's peak arrives immediately after the solar eclipse, making August an unforgettable time for sky-watching.

Where are the best places to watch ?
The astronomer recommends travelling far away from bright city lights as possible and suggested a range of green spaces you can access.

- Epsom Downs
- Box Hill in Surrey
- The South Downs National Park
The best time to watch the meteor shower is between midnight and dawn. Although the shower peaks on the night of August 12 and 13, meteor activity is expected to increase from around August 9.
Gideon told Your Local Guardian: "It's a perfect opportunity to do stargazing, as the Milky Way is also visible at this time of year.
"No specialist or extra equipment is needed for this. Just a working pair of eyes that have adjusted to the darkness."
