A primary school pupil has been crowned the winner of a national poetry competition.
Oliver, a Year 5 pupil from Muschamp Primary School, was crowned the overall KS2 winner of the national Poetry By Heart Classic Competition.
He beat thousands of other pupils to win a place in the final at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, where he performed Roald Dahl’s 'Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf'.
Poetry By Heart is a competition for children and young people aged 7-18.
Oliver was praised for his "delivery and interpretation" and has been described as a "Muschampion".
The headteacher at Muschamp Primary, Heidi Westley, said: “Oliver’s performance, during the school-based competition, was a standout winner, showing an amazing ability to captivate his audience and use every word with feeling.
"We are super proud of Oliver reaching the National Finals and know he will have an amazing experience and give it his all. Oliver is a truly Outstanding Muschampion and all our pupils, families and staff wish him the very best of luck in the final.”
Oliver's journey to the final included another performance of 'What the Fly Thinks' by Gertrude Heath.
His success in reaching the grand final also meant he won an all-expenses-paid overnight trip.
This included a tour of Shakespeare’s Globe in London, where he performed in the competition.
