A Croydon after-school club has improved its food hygiene rating from the lowest possible to 'good.'

Arisekidz, based at John Wood Primary and Nursery Academy, was initially inspected on February 3, when it was told urgent improvements were needed.

The inspection revealed concerns about how food safety was managed, although some standards were met.

The childcare provider, which is not run by the school, received a new inspection on June 18 and was awarded a rating of '4,' or 'good.'

Food hygiene officers evaluate three main areas during their inspections: food handling hygiene, the cleanliness and condition of the premises, and food safety management.

A spokesperson for Arisekidz expressed satisfaction with the recent inspection results, stating all recommendations regarding the kitchen's restructuring and documentation were followed.

The spokesperson said: "We have a good relationship with children and the parents at the school. We’ve shared the recent inspection and kept parents updated."

Arisekidz is an Ofsted-registered, faith-based club that provides extended childcare for working families in a safe environment.

The club claims to encourage social development, support family-centred communities, and promote positive role models.

Despite the previous inspection outcome, the club maintains a 5.0 rating on Google, based on 21 reviews.

One reviewer shared her son's enjoyment of the club, stating her son has "so much fun every day."

The reviewer added: "The children are extremely cared for - hot meals in the winter and a nurturing environment.

"As a working mum, I wouldn’t know what to do without them."

Another reviewer gave a five-star rating, expressing that their children are happy at Arisekidz.

Members of the public can request the full food safety officer’s report from the local authority, although access may be limited in some cases.
