A murder investigation is under way after a three-year-old girl was found dead in Chertsey in what police believe took place in a "family setting".
Officers were called to a property on Pyrcroft Road at about 17:40 BST on Thursday following reports of concern for safety, where they found the three-year-old girl dead.
A 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
He was taken to hospital with a serious injury and police say he will be taken into custody once he has been treated.
The Senior Investigating Officer from the Major Crime Team said: "This is a tragic incident, and our officers are working hard to build a picture of what happened.
"We have made an arrest in connection with this incident and at this stage, we are not looking to identify anyone else in connection with our investigation.
"We have no reason to believe there is any risk to the public."
Officers believe the incident occurred within a family setting.
An investigation, led by Surrey Police’s Major Crime Team, is under way.
There continues to be a significant police presence on Pyrcroft Road, which police say will remain over the coming days.
