A man has died after being hit by a car on a busy dual carriageway.
Metropolitan Police officers were called shortly after 11am yesterday (June 20) with reports of the incident on Belmont Rise, Cheam.
A pedestrian aged in his 70s was found injured and was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he died later that evening.
His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support.
The driver, a man in his 20s, stopped at the scene and was not injured.
A road closure was put in place on the A217 Belmont Rise near to where Arundel Road joins the dual carriageway but this appears to have since been lifted.
There have been no arrests and enquiries are ongoing.
Det Const Caroline Landy from the Metropolitan Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of victim at this extremely difficult time.
"As we try to build up a full picture of the incident, we want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any relevant information, particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage."
