Specialist officers were called to a south London high street last night after a man allegedly made comments about having a firearm.
Police were affecting an arrest enquiry of a man at a property on the High Street at Carshalton on Thursday, June 18, when the suspect allegedly made comments about having a firearm.
This prompted an emergency response by police which required specialist officers and firearms officers to attend the scene.
The man was detained about 8.50pm and no firearm was found by police.
The 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and coercive and controlling behaviour.
He remains in police custody.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Police officers were effecting an arrest enquiry at a property on the High Street, Carshalton, on Thursday, 18 June when the suspect made comments about having a firearm.
"As a result, specialist officers – including firearms officers - attended the scene.
"The suspect was detained at around 20:50hrs and no firearm was found by officers.
"A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and coercive and controlling behaviour.
"He remains in police custody.
"We would like to thank the community for their patience while the incident was resolved."
