A school is celebrating success after winning multiple awards and receiving national recognition.
Meridian High School in Croydon has received the bronze award for 'Making a Difference – Secondary School of the Year' at the Pearson National Teaching Awards, which honour schools that transform pupil life chances and enrich their communities.
The school also retained its Thrive School of Excellence status for a further three years, reflecting its ongoing commitment to student mental health, emotional well-being, and social development.

Amy Anderson, headteacher at Meridian High School, said: "All of us are so proud to see the ambition and aspiration of all our staff and students being recognised on so many levels by winning these awards.
"We have achieved so much thanks to relentless belief and uncompromising expectations. While our students do not lack potential, they are often not given opportunities once they leave school, but at Meridian, we ensure they receive both."
The school also received the 'Excellence in Personal Development' award from Optimus.

Judges highlighted Meridian’s knowledge-rich and carefully sequenced curriculum.
From September 2026, the school will launch Foundations First, a new 12-week intensive programme for Year 7 focused entirely on reading, writing, spelling, oracy and numeracy. Meridian was also recognised for its approach to attendance, earning the National School Attendance Award 2023/24 and placing in the top 25 per cent of similar secondary schools in England.
Home visits, daily communication with families, and collaboration across safeguarding and pastoral teams are part of the school’s approach to maintaining high attendance.
The Pearson judges also recognised the school’s Promise Project, which secures work experience placements for Year 10 students who may not have access to professional networks.
Meridian also fully funds annual residential experiences for all students in Years 7 to 9, ensuring no family is excluded due to financial constraints.
