An long-serving education leader has been recognised with an OBE.
Paul Butler, chair of governors at Waltham Forest College, was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to further education.
The honour reflects his lifelong dedication to expanding opportunity, fostering inclusion, and transforming lives through education and community action.

Mr Butler, who is soon to retire, said: "I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition for my work in further education. This award is not only a personal milestone but also a testament to the dedication and passion of the entire Waltham Forest College community and a very special and dedicated group of staff and governors.
"Our shared commitment to creating opportunities, raising aspirations, inclusion, empowering learners and giving hope, has been the driving force behind every initiative."
He also extended his gratitude to colleagues and partners.
He said: "I am grateful to my colleagues, our students, and our partners within the further education sector for their unwavering belief in the transformative power of education."
Throughout his career, Mr Butler has served in the civil service and held senior leadership roles in the voluntary and community sectors. He has focused on improving opportunities for underrepresented groups and championed lifelong learning and social mobility.
Janet Gardner OBE, principal and chief executive of Waltham Forest College, described the award as well-deserved.
She said: "Paul’s contribution to further education and community life has been extraordinary. He has dedicated decades of his life to creating opportunities for others, championing inclusion and ensuring that education remains a powerful force for social change.
"His leadership at Waltham Forest College has been defined by integrity, compassion and an unwavering commitment to our learners and communities.
"This honour is richly deserved and reflects the profound impact he has had, not only within our college, but across the wider further education sector and beyond."
Under Mr Butler’s leadership, the college has strengthened its role in the community and supported learners in developing the skills and confidence to succeed in employment and higher education.
