Next weekend, a fleet of vintage buses will be travelling through south London – and you can ride them completely free of charge.

A mix of heritage buses are set to take over the 213 bus route for a single day on June 13, offering a nostalgic journey between Kingston and Sutton.

The event, organised by the London Bus Museum as part of Heritage Open Days, will run on June 13 from 10am to 5pm.

Visitors will be able to hop aboard a range of classic buses, including Routemasters, with some vehicles dating back to the 1950s.

The event celebrates the long-standing history of the 213 route, giving passengers a glimpse into how bus travel in London has evolved over the decades.

Originally introduced in 1921 as route 113, the service was renumbered to 213 in 1934 and has undergone significant changes since.

Travel on board the vintage fleet will be completely free, with no advance booking required, and some buses will offer traditional paper tickets as a souvenir.

Where it will stop
The heritage service is expected to call at:

  • Kingston (Eden Street)
  • Norbiton Station
  • Coombe Lane
  • Traps Lane
  • New Malden
  • Worcester Park
  • North Cheam
  • Cheam
  • Sutton Bus Garage

What passengers need to know

Services will run in both directions between Kingston and Sutton Bus Garage from 10am to 5pm. Dogs will be allowed on board.

However, the buses are not step-free accessible due to their historic design, although conductors will be available to assist where possible.

Passengers are also reminded that the standard 213 service will continue to operate as usual alongside the heritage event, and normal fares will still apply on those buses.
