A new bakery is opening its doors with coffee and pastries on offer for just £1.

Lockdown Bakehouse, which first launched in 2020, will open its newest branch at 79 Lower Richmond Road in Putney, London, on June 3.

The Putney branch will be the company’s sixth site and marks another step in its growth from a kitchen business to one of London’s recognised independent bakeries.

The offer is part of their opening day celebration. Co-founder Chris Brumby said: "South West London has always been home for us, Dawn and I have lived here for 17+ years and every site we've opened has been built around the local community that supports it.

"So many of our regular customers have followed our journey from those early lockdown days and Putney felt like a natural next step. It's a neighbourhood with a real sense of community, where people genuinely care about independent businesses, quality food and places that bring people together - which is exactly what Lockdown Bakehouse is all about."

The business began during the first national lockdown when founders Chris and Dawn started baking from their MYPIE kitchen to supply essentials to residents and NHS workers.

Lockdown Bakehouse now operates cafés in Wandsworth, Barnes, Clapham, Earlsfield, and Raynes Park. It also runs a production bakehouse in Wimbledon, which supplies more than 180 wholesale customers across London with fresh bread, pastries, and cakes daily.

The new location will serve an Australian-inspired café menu, daily bakes, brunch options, and coffee—with no extra charge for alternative milks.

Lockdown Bakehouse Putney will open at 7am and will be open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 4pm and Sundays from 8am to 4pm. The site will serve breakfast, brunch, and the full range of fresh baked goods.
