Croydon has re-elected Conservative Jason Perry as its mayor following one of the most closely watched contests in London.
Perry secured 35,871 votes, beating Labour candidate Rowenna Davis who received 34,758 votes, while the Green Party took 14,404 votes.
The borough is currently Conservative-run, with Perry first elected as Croydon’s inaugural executive mayor in 2022.
From 2014 to 2022, the council was under Labour control, during which time it declared effective bankruptcy in November and December 2020 and again in November 2022.
In October 2021, residents voted in a referendum to replace the leader model with a directly elected executive mayor.

This is the second time voters have chosen an executive mayor for the borough.
The result has been closely watched as Croydon remains a key political battleground, having swung between Labour and Conservative control in recent years.
Candidates in this year’s election also included Green Party candidate Peter Underwood, Liberal Democrat Richard Howard, Reform UK’s Ben Flook, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition candidate Benjamin Goldstone, independent Jose Joseph and Michael Pusey of the Taking The Initiative Party.
The mayor has responsibility for council spending, regeneration, planning and local services.
