A cinema in Croydon that has been open for more than two decades has closed for good.

Vue confirmed that its venue at Grants Entertainment Centre would close on April 9.

The cinema first opened back in May 2002, and over the last few weeks locals on TikTok and Instagram have reacted to the news.

Instagram user @mayplaystv said in a post: ‘This is literally the first cinema I came to when I came to the UK.

“I’ve seen a lot of childhood cult classics in the cinema and it’s a very special place.”

Vue Cinema advised people to visit its nearby location in Purley Way, which recently underwent a number of upgrades.

A Vue spokesperson said: "We believe that cinema plays an important role in the local community and will continue to welcome Croydon cinemagoers to our venue at Valley Leisure Park, Purley Way, where recent upgrades, including Laser by Barco projection and Lux and Ultra Lux seating in every screen, offer an even more immersive and comfortable experience.”
