Lola Young has won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance.

Young received the award from Charli XCX for her song Messy, which the Brat star said she could “relate to.”

The 25-year-old singer from Croydon earned the prize for her track Messy, which also reached the top of the UK charts in January 2025.

Lola, who was a former BRIT School student, apologised for swearing during her acceptance speech.

She had also been shortlisted for best new artist, a category ultimately won by Olivia Dean.

All nominees for the award performed at the ceremony, including Ms Young, who delivered an intimate version of her single Messy, seated at a piano in a red tartan outfit.

It marked the 25-year-old's return to performing publicly, having sung at Spotify’s best new artist party on Thursday.

In September 2025, Ms Young announced she would be “going away for a while” and cancelled her tour dates after she collapsed on stage during a New York concert.

She shared an update in December, saying she planned to “gradually” return to performing and “pursuing” her dreams in 2026.

Who is Lola Young?

Lola Young was born in Croydon and began writing songs at a young age.

She attended the Brit School and built a following when gigging around London at open mic nights.

Young was nominated for the BRITs Rising Star Award in 2022.

The Grammy marks a major milestone in a breakthrough year for Ms Young, who has also earned five nominations at this year's BRIT awards and her first UK number one single, for Messy, in January 2025.
