It is believed that that a shooting that took place in Crystal Palace involving a group of men was “not a random attack”.
Police are continuing to investigate the reports of shots fired in Hamlet Road on Monday (January 26) at around 10pm.
According to the Metropolitan Police, it is believed that a resident at the property – a man in his 20s – was assaulted by three men, who produced a gun.
Another man, also in his 20s, then entered a flat and was shot, the Met said.
After the shooting, the group fled the scene in a car.
Following from the incident, police have established that this appears to have been an isolated incident.
In a joint letter from MP for Beckenham and Penge Liam Conlon and councillors Ruth McGregor and Ryan Thomson, the group have said: “Police have informed us that this appears to be a targeted and isolated incident, and was not a random attack.
“We have been working with police since and are pleased that they have increased patrols in the area and visited local schools and community organisations to provide reassurance.”
They added: “We are deeply grateful to the police and London Ambulance Service, and to every individual officer and paramedic for attending the scene, for their swift and professional response.”
Both victims were taken to hospital and the man who was shot sustained life-changing injuries.
The man who was assaulted has neither life-changing nor life-threatening injuries.
The road was blocked of by both ends between Belvedere Road and Maberley Road.
Officers were seen searching the area, including going through bins and picking up a loose car registration plate.
