Bin collections in Sutton will follow a special timetable over the festive period so some residents will see changes to their normal collection day.
Those due on Christmas Day (Thursday, December 25) will be picked up two days later, on Saturday, December 27. Collections scheduled for Boxing Day (Friday, December 26) will take place three days later, on Monday, December 29.
Collections due on Monday, December 29 and Tuesday, December 30 will be made one day later than normal. Collections on Wednesday, December 31, and Thursday, January 1 will be made one day later.
Collections scheduled for Friday, January 2 will take place three days later, on Monday, January 5 while those due from Monday, January 5 to Friday, January 9 will be collected one day later. This includes a Saturday collection for those whose bins were due to be picked up on the Friday.
Normal collection schedules will resume from Monday, January 12 2026.
Sutton Council is also running a free Christmas tree disposal service. Residents should put their trees out by 6am on Tuesday, December 30, ensuring all decorations are removed and the tree has been taken out of its pot.
The tree will be collected within a four-week period so the crew could turn up on any day from December 30. Genuine Christmas trees can also be recycled free of charge at the borough’s Household Refuse and Recycling Centre at Kimpton Park Way.
Residents can also leave their tree next to their rubbish bin on collection day. In this case it will not be recycled.
The council also suggest chopping the tree up to create a winter shelter for animals in your garden or add it to your compost heap if you have one.
