Being an estate agent in Croydon isn’t just about viewings, valuations, and handing over keys. It takes resilience, patience, and above all, honesty. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that trust is the foundation of everything we do in this business.
Right now, we’re living through a moment of change. With interest rates being cut back to 4%, there’s a real sense of movement in the market again. Buyers who had stepped back are beginning to step forward, and landlords are weighing up their next moves. But the truth is, not every situation is the same, and not every decision is straightforward.
I’ve been working on a development in Croydon that has suffered heavily for reasons completely outside of both the landlord’s and vendors’ hands. For those involved, it’s been frustrating and at times, disheartening. That’s when being straight with people really matters. It doesn’t help anyone to sugar-coat the reality. Working with the facts, however tough they may be, is always better than working in the dark.
One landlord said to me recently, “It’s not every day a sales agent tells you not to sell. Most of you just want the business.” He laughed, and so did I, but my reply was simple: Of course I want your business, but at what cost? Our relationship?
That’s the point. My role isn’t just about transactions, it’s about people. I want my landlords and vendors to know what’s happening in the market, good or bad, so they can make an informed decision. Some are ready to sell, others need to hold tight and that’s okay. Not everyone is at the same stage, or going through the same pressures, and my job is to meet them where they are.
Croydon is a town of constant change from new developments reshaping the skyline to families finding their first homes here. To navigate it, honesty has to come first. Without it, trust is lost, and without trust, there’s no real partnership.
So, if you’re a landlord, a vendor, or just someone curious about what these changes might mean for you, I’m always open for a chat. Sometimes the best decision is to sell, sometimes it’s to wait but either way, you’ll always get the facts from me.
